Support Groups
Many People find it helpful to share their feelings and
frustrations with others. Support groups provide an opportunity to do
that.
Meetings include both planned and informal discussions.
Caregivers often share their feelings of frustration, anger and guilt.
Time is also spent discussing specific caregiver problems
and sharing information about community resources, understanding aging, and
learning particular caregiving skills.
Meetings sometimes include presentations by experts on
such topics as managing stress, legal and financial issues, selecting a nursing
home, managing aggressive behavior, and coping with grief and loss.

What is a Caregiver?
A caregiver is anyone that helps care for and/or makes
decisions for another person. A caregiver may be an adult child caring for
a frail parent, the spouse of a frail person, or a relative or friend lending a
helping hand.
Some caregivers provide 24-hour-per day care and others
may only assist occasionally.
Caregivers have this in common--concern for the safety and
well-being of their friend or loved one. They sometimes feel helpless and
over stressed, and need help.
