About
the artist….
David Atkins was born in Cincinnati in
1952. His family moved west (first California, then Arizona) when he was 12.
Various trips were taken throughout both states — resulting in David’s
becoming impressed with the visual aspects of the western landscape. This
also deepened his commitment to becoming a professional artist.
David has received a number of awards for his work, including first
prize at a state competition for a pastel portrait of the late President John
F. Kennedy. In addition, California’s Walt Disney Studio once expressed an
interest in David’s work, but backed away due to his being “too young”.
After returning to Ohio in 1970, David studied watercolor at Southern
State College in Hillsboro. He has participated in competitions sponsored
by Southwestern Ohio Arts League, and
has twice won the best of show award.
